In the foothills of the Ozarks in a town that time forgot
Cousins Chuck and Mickey made the best of what they got
Runnin down the backroads goin steady with the girls
Hittin chandeliers with fishin poles to piss off Uncle Bill
They could not imagine life outside the family store
But looming in the foreground was a twisted foreign war
So Uncle Sam called both their names and Mick he lost his life
And Chuck he weren't the same without his best friend by his side

When people don't cooperate we burn their houses down
Now how the hell's that gonna make em listen to us now
These were the final words Mickey sent home to his folks
He never made it back down to the hills that he called home

Now dyin for your country holds no glory
The president would never die for you
Vietnam ain't different from Missouri
There's a father there died after his son too

Chuck he had a future as an army engineer
Wife and kids and guarantees his future would be dear
But makin bombs and takin lives was lowest of the low
So he walked away and tried his luck on music city row
But luck was somethin rarely found in Charles Riddles' life
The bottom of a bottle would replace his kids and wife
But he took solace in the fact he never played a hand
In the money hungry war machine that swallowed his best friend
